ANTELOPE ACRES, Los Angeles County — An August brush fire near the Antelope Acres community burned 362 acres before firefighters contained it, according to the state’s official incident record. As the high desert enters another period of dry and windy weather, the Jarvis Fire offers a reminder of how quickly a rural emergency can develop.
Where and when the fire happened
The CAL FIRE incident record for the Jarvis Fire places the ignition on August 10, 2026, near West Avenue G-8 and 90th Street West, west of Lancaster. The fire was managed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The state reported the final acreage as 362 and recorded 100% containment as of 6 p.m. on August 11.
During the first afternoon, fire officials issued evacuation warnings for zones LAC-E1639 and LAN-E001. The state incident log says all warnings were lifted on August 10 as crews stopped the forward spread, while containment work continued. These dates matter: the August warnings are not current evacuation orders.
What investigators have established
The incident record lists the cause as under investigation. It does not establish an accidental or intentional ignition source, name a responsible individual or confirm property damage at any particular address. Readers should not draw such conclusions from photographs or rumors.
Where to get reliable alerts next time
People who live in Antelope Acres can monitor the Los Angeles County emergency information page and CAL FIRE incident reports when new fires occur. Prepare evacuation plans that account for pets, livestock, medicines, limited rural road connections and family members who may need additional travel time.
During any new incident, follow the latest orders from local authorities, not an older fire perimeter map. A warning means prepare to leave, while an evacuation order requires immediate action.
